Brewer Subdivision

Less than a mile from restaurants and shops and half of mile from El Camino Real. In 1917, Templeton Crocker, son of railroad baron Charles F. Crocker, completed Upland, his 39-room mansion, at the southeastern edge of newly-incorporated Hillsborough. In 2956, the Crocker family sold the Willis Polk-designed mansion and 10 acres if land to the Crystal Springs School, subdividing the rest of the estate. Closest Hillsborough neighborhood to downtown San Mateo.
 

Carolands

A wide range in real estate prices. the 100-room mansion for Carolands is named was built for railroad heiress Hariett Pullman Carolan in 1914. In 1998, after decades of decline, the mansion found new owners and underwent a $20 million restoration. Spread out, ranch style homes with spacious, half-acre-and-up lots.
 

Hillsborough Heights

Bigger and diverse styles of homes, including classic vintage homes. Hillsborough Heights emerged out of land once owned by early Hillsborough pioneer, William Davis Merry Howard. Development of custom homes began in the 1920s and 1930s, attracting the likes of William Randolph Hearst, who raised his daughter Patty at 233 W. Santa Inez Avenue. Close proximity to shopping and restaurants.
 

Hillsborough Park

One of the Hillsborough's high-end neighborhoods. This phenomenon is, literally, a new development. Originally part of William Davis Merry Howard's Rancho San Mateo, Hillsborough Park was built out earlier that most Hillsborough neighborhoods. It still has one of Hillsborough's larger collections of 1920s and 1930s homes. Home to Vista Park that has sporting playing fields, a picnic area and children's playground.
 

Lakeview

Homes have bigger lots, measuring between a half-acre and an acre. Lakeview was built out mostly between 1950 and 1980 - half of the homes sold in 2011 were built between 1971 and 1980, and about a third were constructed during the 1950s - and a few outliers. With its relatively inexpensive property costs, Lakeview attracts its share of buyers looking to "raze and rebuild." Close proximity to Crystal Springs Reservoir and convenient Highway 280.
